Notion AI vs Coda AI vs ClickUp AI: Workspace Tools
I ran my whole team's docs, projects, and notes through Notion AI, Coda AI, and ClickUp AI. Real comparison of what each actually does well in 2026.
Notion AI vs Coda AI vs ClickUp AI
I migrated a 12-person team’s workspace across all three (one month each). Here’s what each AI actually does well, beyond the marketing.
Comparison Table
| Feature | Notion AI | Coda AI | ClickUp AI |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core strength | Docs & knowledge base | Docs + formulas/apps | Project management |
| AI in docs | Write, summarize, Q&A | Write, summarize, formulas | Write, summarize |
| AI on tasks/projects | Basic | Moderate (via docs) | Excellent (status, updates) |
| “Ask your workspace” | Yes (search-grounded) | Yes (formula-aware) | Yes (task-grounded) |
| Automation | Simple | Powerful (Coda formulas) | Powerful (ClickUp automations) |
| Price (AI add-on) | ~$10/member/mo | ~$12/doc-maker/mo | ~$7/member/mo |
How Each Felt
Notion AI is the most polished for pure knowledge work. Ask it “what did we decide about pricing last quarter?” and it pulls from across docs and meeting notes with solid citations. The inline writing assistant is the least intrusive of the three. Where it lags is project execution — tasks are an afterthought, so AI on “what’s blocking the Q3 launch?” is weaker than ClickUp’s.
Coda AI is the power-user’s dream that nobody talks about. Coda’s formula engine means AI can write formulas, build mini-apps inside your doc, and manipulate structured data (tables that are basically databases with logic). If your “doc” is actually a lightweight app — a planner, a tracker, a CRM — Coda’s AI is uniquely capable. The learning curve is real, though; it’s not for everyone.
ClickUp AI shines where work is tasks. “Summarize my overdue tasks,” “draft a status update from these 5 projects,” “auto-prioritize this sprint” — it’s the best at project-shaped AI because ClickUp’s data model is project-shaped. The docs side is fine but not Notion-level. If your team is project-heavy (agencies, eng, ops), this is the AI that matches your day.
Verdict
Notion AI for docs-first teams and knowledge bases. Coda AI for power users who want docs-as-apps. ClickUp AI for project-management-heavy teams. Pick the workspace your team already lives in — the AI differences are smaller than the tool-fit differences.
